Spring Break Outreach Trip

This will absolutely transform the life of anyone who goes on this trip.

This spring break, the FUMC youth group will be going to inner-city Atlanta, Georgia to spend time at the Safehouse Outreach center. Visit their website here: http://www.safehouseoutreach.org/. This trip will provide your student the opportunity to spend nearly every waking moment with the homeless and poor downtown. We will share Christ's love by having conversation with people who are from a different socio-economic group, sharing food, putting on church services, washing the feet of the homeless, visiting Martin Luther King's neighborhood, and possibly hiking up Stone Mountain. Each student will stay in a bed and be fed three meals a day! The cost of the trip goes towards keeping the doors of Safehouse Outreach open and in business sharing God's love with the broken.

We will be leaving FUMC right at 12pm on March 28th. Please pack a bag lunch for your student for the road and provide them with money for dinner as we will be stopping before we get to Safehouse. On the return trip Sunday April 1st, we will be eating breakfast at Safehouse and then stopping for lunch so please provide your student with a little cash for that as well. I predict we will be back to the church around 7-8pm but please make sure you follow all our updates via Twitter at www.twitter.com/WarehouseMelbs! You can also contact James Barnett, the Director of Student Ministries for any inquiries at Jbarnett@fumc-melb.org.

A Letter from Bryant

As you are well aware now, there is a big change just around the corner for Tonya and I. Moving to Charlotte has been something that God has been orchestrating. It was with much prayer she sought out a school to complete her Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and I began to seek out job opportunities. Oddly enough, neither of us really looked into Charlotte. Wingate University was one of the last school's on her list, but the one that she was most excited about interviewing all across the nation. Myers Park United Methodist Church I came into contact with through a friend who first spoke to the pastor who ten got in contact with me. We feel really confident that we have made a decision that follows God's plan for our lives and have been blessed in it.

I do believe that God will also bless the youth ministry and First United Methodist Church as a part of that. We currently are surrounded by the best bunch of volunteers I have ever worked with. They are committed, dedicated, and are involved because of God's call in their lives. They want to see young people growing closer to God. We have worked hard in creating some systems that will sustain this youth ministry regardless of who the staff person is. And ministry will continue stronger than it ever has before.

A young person said to me recently, that I if were leaving then they were, too. Many of us have developed some really close relationships. I have enjoyed that and through the magic of the internet we can still keep in touch. However, ministry is not about me. It is about Jesus Christ. The youth ministry will continue. It will carry on with it programs, events, and activities. Don't give up on God because I or anyone else has let you down.

We will miss Melbourne and the friends that we have made. We will being just miles from the beach. I will miss you, our friends, who have supported and encouraged us all along. May God continue to bless you in your continued ministry.
